Heartening news in the ever more ‘hostile environment’ our government has created aginst people seeking sanctuary in the UK: our partners Women for Refugee Women have just won the right to a legal challenge against Hassockfield/Derwentside for its lack of legal provision.
The Government chose to lock up women at Hassockfield aka Derwentside without provision for them to access in-person legal advice, and the need for proper, in-person, legal advice at Derwentside IRC is more pertinent than ever. The passing of the Nationality and Borders Bill into law in the past few days means many more women will find themselves unrepresented. It is now clear that women have not been excluded from the Government’s offshoring plans, and that anyone in detention facing removal to Rwanda will only have 7 days to challenge this decision.
You can help WfRW fight their case by opening this link and donating to their appeal to cover the costs of the hearing in June.
