We need to be heard at our December 18th monthly demo!

December 15, 2021 Posted by Alison Stancliffe No To Hassockfield No Comments
The next Monthly Demonstration against the proposed detention centre in County Durham for women of migrant background who are sanctuary seekers is ️on
*Saturday 18th December , 12-2pm* at the former Hassockfield/Medomsley secure unit (now called Derwentside IRC by the Home Office), Corbridge Road, Consett, DH8 6QY (wheelchair accessible)
To date we still have no news about when women will arrive at the site, but it could happen in the next few days.  Please bring your placards, banners, instruments and your voices!
If there are women present by then, we want to make some noise! 🥁 🎺👏
Together we won’t let The Home Office, Ministry of Justice and MP Richard Holden lock-up migrant women indefinitely – not now, not here, not never, not nowhere!
Here are some more people attending at our Consett demonstration showing what’s at stake. (photo credits Simone Rudolphi (1 &3 ) and Mietek Padowicz (2)

The site is easily accessed on bus number X71 (£7) from Eldon Square bus station, central Newcastle. Ask the driver for the stop Pretoria Club (which is 5 minutes from the site). There is some parking and there will be stewards to show people where to park, but please be mindful of the local community.
