We’re holding our latest monthly protest outside the gates of Hassockfield/Derwentside Immigration Removal Centre on Saturday 18th June.
Mitie have recently spent money on beautifying the entrance with two new Welcome signs, making quite sure that the IRC’s new name is prominently displayed. It certainly ignores the grim history of the Hassockfield site – which we feel is much too important to airbrush out with a new name.
Mitie have been paid over £16 million for their two year Home Office contract to run the centre. Is this latest expense a good use of taxpayers’ money? And who do they think the Welcome is for?
Why not come and be welcomed in person tomorrow, 18th June 12.00-2.00 , and decide for yourself? See our Facebook post for more details.
